From Our June 5th Meeting

Welcome to our new, well returning, members
Candy Posson  and Marla Hill.  Good to have you back.

Click on the pinemountainscrappers.shutterfly.com link to see the photos from the meeting, compliments of our Historian,

Mary McDevitt
Mary says
We have some great photos to share this month.  Our June meeting was a pleasure.  Our speaker was Sue Rasmussen, quilt artist/teacher.  You will see her trunk show as well as photos of her class on the following day.  There you will see the fabric art work in process from our 16 students.

We also have photos from Alice and Victoria on some of the projects they have been working on.  Alice has made a lovely quilt for a little boy names Eric.  It is made of 2 squares on point in white, blues and yellows.  She has also made a beautiful multicolored purse.  You will also see Alice's Giraffe quilt, which made for a baby girl who had open heart surgery.  Alice quilts with a group of caring ladies in an organization called Garden of Hope.  We also have a photo of her pumpkin centerpiece.  I'm thinking turkey and thanksgiving.

Victoria is showing a beautiful plaid red and black shoulder bag and a beautiful table runner with birds.  We love those birds and think we have seen them on other great projects from Victoria.  Many thanks ladies for sharing your work with the group.  We not only miss your work, but we miss all our members that have moved from PMC so please keep it coming.  We love to see what our out of town members are working on so please email me photos of your projects with a description and I will post it.

Comfort Zone
by Carol Wiersma & Felicity Watson

At Comfort Zone Workshop in May we sandwiched 7 quilts and this month we hope to sandwich several more.  All in preparation for our "Let's Machine Quilt" workshops in July and August.

Join us on the second Thursday, June 12th for kit preparation and packaging at 2332 Alpen Court from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm (bring your own lunch).  Also come to the Comfort Zone Workshop on the 4th Wednesday, June 25th at the Pool Pavilion from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm.  We will be sewing up quilt tops and get them sandwiched.

For more information call Carol Wiersma 242-7707 or Felicity Watson 242-1521.

Congratulations to the Card Makers and their co-chairs, Diane McBain  and Gracia Stahl.  We had a very successful Lilac Festival Weekend (see article).  Card making is on vacation until August 2.  Diane says" go swimming " until then (and say hi to Sonia at the pool).

Lynette Lame won the Quilt @ My House auction for June: Thursday, June 19, 10 -2.  Lynette is making lunch so RSVP Lynette at 242-1455 and bring canned goods for the food bank. Lynette reminds us that Q@MH  could also be called “Clean Up @ My House.”

July is the annual Chau & Tong Q@MH.  They have a date, Thursday July 10, 10-2.  RSVP to Tong (242-1983) by July 3 because these two need a lot of time to prepare lunch.  If Chau doesn’t go to Viet Nam in July, it will be at Chau's house.  If she does go to Viet Nam, it will be at Tong’s. Stay tuned.
Canned goods accepted.

May found us all in good health.  Here's to a healthy June!

Program   Ginny Duhm and Marie Centeno

Raves are in for our June program and class.  Sue Rasmussen entertained us on Thursday night and taught us on Friday.  She wants to come back and we want to have her.

The July 3 program is Bunco for Quilters.   Ditch your high heels for this one, you’ll be running.  Bring 2 fat quarters to play.
Quilt & Chat & More for July 4th is cancelled.

In August, we will have another outstanding guest, Barbara Stuhan, with a trunk show and a Friday class.  More to come.

Scholarships are available to members.  Here's how it works: If a class is beyond your budget, you may attend one class once a year at what you can pay. Contact Kathy Weinstein at 242-2217.

Guild members who attend classes will receive five  Opportunity Quilt 2 tickets.  New members attending their first class will get ten OQ2 tickets.  Contact Ginny Duhm at 242-0022.

OPPORTUNITY QUILT NEWS

It’s underway!  The applique animals are being assembled.  The trip to Candy’s Quiltworks for background fabric is rescheduled for sometime in July.  The bear paw quilt blocks will be the Block of the Month for August.

It’s been decided! OQ2 will be raffled off at the Christmas Party.

LILAC Festival 2014 Wrap Up

We had a very successful Lilac Festival. We made back our expenses and then some. More than 450 cards were sold. The winner of the little black and white lap quilt was Karen Fries. Over 70 invites to Quilt & Chat & More were handed out to prospective guild members.
Thanks to all the volunteers who made the weekend so much fun.  Special thanks to MJ Glaseman and Bobbi Marvel for decorating the Lilac Mobile for the parade.

This month’s library report features our own quilter’s book, "Famous Enough” by Diane McBain, a former famous Hollywood movie star.  She is also a member of our quilt guild.  Our members who have read the book, Candy, Fran and Gayle and a few others, gave the book report.  This book is a "must read" for anybody wanting to learn the unvarnished truth behind the "Hollywood myth", and about a young woman’s soul searching.

Below is a list of books added to PMSQG library this past month.  Librarian thanks Mae and Allie for their generous donations.   There is a book purchased in class from Sue Rasmussen, “Quilting 101: What Every Quilter Should Know”.  It is a must read for all quilters, so please come in and check it out.  This is just a smiley reminder that members can check the books out from PMSQG library for 90 days.

There was no tip of the month from guild members but...Sue Rasmussen, our guest teacher this month, had tip after tip.  If you missed her class, you can take out her book from our Library,  previously mentioned.

"Quilting 101: What Every Quilter Should Know."

Sue knows everything!

Here's an interview with Sue that explains the class we took.
