We will be raffling off the two Opportunity Quilts at the Craft Fair Saturday November 28.  Until then, we have an "opportunity" or two to show our two quilts.
The Cotton Patch Quilters of Bakersfield have invited us to show our quilts at their
Thursday October 15 monthly meeting.  See Coming Events.
,
We have asked to show our Opportunity Quilts
at the Kern County Fair and are waiting for a response.

In August, Gayle Gentile Royal and Kathleen Weeks got OQ donations at the Frazier Park Chamber of Commerce (see below).

PROGRAM Marie Centeno and Ginny Duhm

The delightful Dawn Burns brought some of her quilts down from her attic in Frazier Park to show us.  Dawn is an artist, a pianist, a mistress of needle arts and a true original.  She is the one who is putting up the barn quilts you see along the road.  She's one of the "Frazier Park Ladies"and she makes the most incredible crazy quilts out of just about any fiber.

Dawn's philosophy of quilting: work with what you have and where you have it.  She showed us a quilt she made on a quilting cruise to Alaska.  Not wanting to be confined to  a room while on board, she made the entire quilt by hand and was able to tour the ship and see all the sights.  Her idea of a quilting retreat is to go on a business trip with her husband and spend the whole day in the hotel room quilting uninterrupted!  She could be the most interesting quilter in the world!!

Next month is the Halloween Challenge.  Make sure to bring your challenge quilt containing the Boo fabric, completed or not, in a plain paper bag.  Do not label it or place your name on it or the bag.

Wear a Halloween costume to the October 1 meeting.  There will be a prize for best costume.
A reminder:
Scholarships for classes are available for members on fixed incomes.  Volunteer time can be transferred into class time as well.  No one should miss a class because it is a financial hardship.  Please talk with a board member, Bev, MJ, Beth or Kathy if you need assistance with any "costs.

Telephone Art Quilt Ginny Duhm
Our telephone operator, Ginny, reports that the first three art quilts, one from each team, are completed.  The next three mystery quilters are about to begin their two month assignments creating the next in a chain of art quilts.

Don't read this, Linda Morton

Linda still walks among us but she is moving to Henderson...really...soon.  We have agreed to make her 9 1/2 inch Autumn colored blocks due by the Christmas Party or just give her the fabric and instructions!!

Craft Fair

The club holds a Holiday Craft Fair the Saturday after Thanksgiving every year.  The Guild gets two spaces.  Cards and Opportunity Quilt tickets go on one side and guild member crafts are displayed for sale in
the rest of the space.
Guild members are invited to sell any crafts (sorry, no edibles) they make.  Ten per cent of the selling price goes to the guild, the rest to the maker.
The guild has a great reputation for fine crafts.
You want to be part of this.

Thank You Very Much

Gayle Gentile Royal and Kathleen Weeks represented the Guild at a recent Frazier Park Chamber of Commerce mixer.  They took the Opportunity Quilts along with and spread the Scrappers service message.  Thanks, Ladies.

SOS--Save Our Spools

Allie White found this idea for reusing empty thread spools:  make them into a Christmas garland so the Scrappers can win first prize in the PMC Village tree decorating contest.  Bring your empty spools and crafty stuff to QCM and we'll start stringing them together.
Here's the link:

The strip garland is also still in the works.

Would You Like to be the Guild's Calendar Girl?

Sequoia Ricoy, Miss July

Putting out the monthly calendar is a fairly easy job if you have a computer and a Word (or something comparable) program.
Sonia Ricoy, our calendar girl, is moving to Carpinteria.  She promises to return to PMC once a month with Sequoia.  Her new address is with the e-mail accompanying News & Views.
If you would like to be the Guild's calendar girl, contact Kathy W.

Don't read This, Sonia Ricoy

Tip of the Month

From Tong Sproul:
When measuring, use the same tape measure or ruler during the whole project.
From Dawn Burns:
If you spill mustard on a quilt, sew a button on the stain.
