Quilting Bee
A quilting bee is a gathering of friends and neighbors who come together to work on creating a quilt. It can be a social event during which friends spend time working together on one quilt.... The original purpose behind this event was to enlist the help of several people in order to get the quilt finished in a much faster fashion than if just one person worked on the quilt. While this is still an advantage to the quilting bee, the primary purpose behind modern bees is to socialize with others who enjoy the craft of quilting. from wiseGEEK.com
I opened my home on Saturday September 6 for a Scrappers Quilting Bee. The objective was to work on our 2015 Opportunity Quilt At one table, Kathy M., Linda Morton, Gayle, Fran and Carole B. worked on preparing bear paws and cutting appliques. At another table, Gracia and Tong assembled bear paws. Mae worked on finishing the appliqué of Chau's cougar at another table. Felicity was all over the room, completing the deer and blue jays as well as making patterns for branches and placing the appliqués in the right places. Mary Mac stopped by to offer support. Sonia and I added hands where they were needed and made sure everyone was well fed. Everyone had a good time and the OQ is taking shape. It is truly a guild work.
Kathy
So if you missed this one, the next "Bee" will be at Quilt&Chat&More Friday September 26.
If you took a bear paw kit at the August meeting, bring what you have completed or not to QCM on or before September 26.
Bon Voyage, Chau Anderson

Comfort Zone
by Carol Wiersma & Felicity Watson
Everyone is working hard and we have 68 quilts and 87 tote bags already finished. We still need 32 more quilts and 13 tote bags which is a manageable amount to complete in the next two months. At the 4th Wednesday (September 24th at the Pool Pavilion) Comfort Zone Workshop, we will be sandwiching more completed tops and quilting those already sandwiched. This production line process seems to work well. Also remember to pick up socks and underwear for the kids when you go shopping. We currently have 14 packages of socks and 3 packages of underwear - we need much more. Thanks for all your great work. If you have any questions, or need kits, call Carol @ 242-7707 or Felicity @ 242-1521.

Carol says she often feels like she is never productive when it comes to quilting. So she started a daily journal of what she does that involves quilting. The result was that she spends a lot of her time involved in quilting: Reading magazines, checking out videos, talking with other quilters, buying fabric, going to shows, planning projects. Writing it down makes it concrete.
Great idea!

The Scrappers Labor Day Picnic
This year's picnic started at a new time, 4pm, and the sun was not in our eyes. As usual, the potluck was superb and everyone who was there had a great time.
Big thanks to Margaret, Marie and Fran for putting it together.
