Quilt Trips ...

Scrappers took to the road on Saturday April 9 to have brunch with Alice Chitwood at her home in Visalia.  Then they went to the Best of the Valley show in Lindsay where Alice

Maricopa Quilt Company Closing

Vicki, the owner of the Maricopa Quilt Company, is retiring and that lovely store is closing end of April.  Needless to say, the shop will be missed and all the fabric is now on sale for ridiculously low prices.
If you know anyone who wants to buy a quilt shop in a lonely Central California town, contact Vicki at 661 769 8580.  Hurry!!!

Lilac Festival and Parade

This year's PMC Lilac Festival will be held in the village on
May 14 & 15.
The Parade will be on Saturday and the Scrappers will have a booth both Saturday and Sunday
for Card sales and
Opportunity Quilt raffles.
Despite what you may hear or see, there is NO quilt show this year.
Our quilt Show is every other year and they are the odd ones.

So keep some time open to spend with us at the
Lilac Festival Booth in May.

And do we want to be in the Parade?

Comfort Zone

Thanks to everyone who came to the 5th Wednesday "Strip Party" on March 30th.   Besides all the fun, food and prizes we did get a lot accomplished and many kits prepared.  We will be finishing 29 of the strip quilts this year.  Most are ready for sandwiching.

We still have some appliqué work to do, borders to add, then quilting and binding.

Please join us the 4th Wednesday in April (April 27) from 9 to 3 in the Pool Pavilion for
Comfort Zone Workshop.
We've invited the Card Makers to join us that day in preparation for the Lilac Festival.

For further information contact Carol or Felicity at the numbers on the e-mail.

Opportunity Quilt News
The Opportunity Quilt top has been completed (by one of Santa's elves?) and is waiting to be delivered to Felicity for quilting.  This will take place in the next two weeks.
So the OQ will be ready for the Lilac Festival.
Allie took this on herself because it was a "one person project at this point."  It probably helped her to stay busy while her poodle, Sophie, is ill.  Sophie was a big help when the OQ committee met at Allie's home earlier this year.

The 2016 Row by Row Experience is underway.  Candy's Quiltworks and Bolts to Bindings are just 2 of the shops who are participating this year.
Let's do it.

Library

Our library has books and DVDs and novels that will educate and entertain you.  We have books that have block ideas for the Friendship Quilt.

The Library is open at QCM and at meetings and on request.

We have removed years of Scrappers yearbooks from the Library to make space for  more books.  These photos need to be digitized or cataloged in some way that saves space.
Do we have any volunteers for this task?

Card Making Workshops

We get together to make homemade quilt cards every second Wednesday in the Pool pavilion from 9 to 3.

And in addition to our April 13 card workshop, Cards are joining the Comfort Zone 4th Wednesday Workshop on April 27 to have extra time for the Lilac Festival preparations.

From Our March & April Meetings

              Sunshine

Gayle Gentile-Royal is getting over writer's cramp after sending out cards to:

Judy Keim--broken left hand. So now she is doing everything she normally does one handed!
Beth Worrell--pinched nerve in her neck. Can't use the keyboard.
Liz Buchroeder--bad cold and all the complications
MJ Glaseman--cold, bad enough
Mary McDevitt--back problems and she's back from Maryland
Fran Burras--Bob's recovery is keeping her busy.  Fortunately when Bob has radiation, Fran gets to stay in an apartment and catch up on her rest.  She says she doesn't need anything right now but knows when she does, we will be there for her.
David Beigle is doing well after a little TIA.
We've sent Felicity Watson one big card for the year.
Stay well, woman!

Show & Tell

No UFO for Margie Carrasquillo.  She finished Bev Cressey's
confetti class quilt.

Ginny Duhm's Yellow Rose of Texas Quilt needs to be seen up close.  Each of the beige strips has a memory written on it by a family member--grand kid, cousin, etc--who are members of the Texas Austin clan, (yes, that Austin).
See more on Shutterfly.

We got a lovely letter from Linda Morton.
The original is on view at our meetings.

My dear quilt group,
Thank you so much for the wonderful blocks you made for me in memory of all of you and the many happy years (25 to be exact) that I spent in the Pine Mountain Scrappers and Pine Mountain Club.
I am still getting settled.  this may take some time because I am getting slower at everything I do.  I miss you all and I am working on my quilt/X-stitch room at this time.  I brought absolutely everything in there with me.  I get teary -eyed putting away all the memories.  I will close my book I have written here now and attend to my old age children, my cats Kizzy & Keya (my ongoing two yr. olds for the rest of my life!)
Hugs...Linda Morton

Sometimes it starts and you
can't stop it:

MJ was telling us how she had a rotary cutter injury and then there were three tips on how to treat a cut:

Liquid Bandage, available in drug stores
Crazy Glue, available in hardware and drug stores
Preparation H, probably in your medicine cabinet.  Also good for shrinking wrinkles under the eyes.

            Math Cheater

When making a binding always connect your strips by a diagonal cut.  A straight cut connecting seam will be too thick to bind, weakens the binding and is not as pleasing to the eye as a diagonal.  Here's a tutorial:
                                                              click here-->Binding Tutorial
and there's more.......
When changing thread on the machine, cut at the top of the machine and pull out from the needle so not to mess up the tension.

Sequoia says.....

I have teeth now.  You can't see them.

 Like my shoes?
I'm not sure about this guy.
Come and see me at the Quilting by the Sea Quilt Show April 22.  My mommy is coming with me.

Business News

The 2016 Budget was approved by the members at the March meeting.  There is a budget book available for perusal at our monthly meetings.  If you haven't sent in your 2016 dues, now is a good time to do so.  It's like your taxes only a whole lot better!!

If ......dues or a class are a financial hardship this year, please talk with one of our officers about alternate means of funding.
No one is ever excluded from the Guild or a guild activity
because of money.
