July 2015 News & Views

July 2015

              President's Message
A very belated happy 4th of July to all!

Kathy

From Our
July 2, 2015 Meeting

Welcome new members,
Jenny Coulter from Texas
and Pam Norris from the Lace Guild.
              /\/\/\/\/\/\/\

We opened our meeting with a moment of silence for Irene Quick.  After the splendid potluck, guild members shared memories of Irene, a talented woman with a remarkable ability to give of herself.

Elaine Goodchild and Liz Buchroeder are putting together a scrapbook for the family.  You'll find their emails attached to this email.

This month's meeting was particularly noisy.  Several members sent feedback that it was really difficult to hear what was going on.  Your president respectfully asks that you refrain from private conversations during the business and program portions of the meeting.  Thank you.

Comfort Zone workshop this month is July 22  from 9 to 3 in the Pool Pavilion, as of this moment.
July has a fifth Wednesday which means there's a Sew Down on July 29.  Details to follow.

Allie White brought in her ten CZ quilts.  Living in Bako, she often finds herself at Beverly's bargain table where she picks up panels.  Then she adds a couple of borders to a panel and quilts it.  Her quilting is really what makes the quilt.
Carol and Allie.  Is that a photo of the two of them in high school?
Quilt and tote bag kits are available from Carol for homework.

Handi Quilter Available
I have a Handi Quilter that Alice gave me that I want to give to some one in our group if they want it. I set it up yesterday but in order to leave it up I need a lot more space in my sewing room. It needs about a 6 foot table if it’s to be left up all the time. All the pieces are here and there’s a video telling how to put it together and how to quilt with it. You use your regular sewing machine with it. Basically it’s a quilting form.

Wanted: Craft Fair Chair
After many years of chairing the Craft Fair Committee, Gayle Gentile Royal has decided to take a well earned vacation and visit friends in Arizona over the Thanksgiving weekend.  Gayle describes the position as : sitting at the table and taking money all day.  Of course, there are breaks to shop, eat, rest but it's basically "Queen for a Day."  Contact Kathy if you'd like to take on this one day event.

Speaking of the Craft Fair........

The club holds a Holiday Craft Fair the Saturday after Thanksgiving every year.  The Guild gets two spaces.  Cards and Opportunity Quilt tickets go on one side and guild member crafts are displayed for sale in the rest of the space.
Guild members are invited to sell any crafts (sorry, no edibles) they make.  Ten per cent of the selling price goes to the guild, the rest to the maker.
The guild has a great reputation for fine crafts.
You want to be part of this.

Kern County Fair

We should have a lot of entries this year because of the Quilt Show. Log on to the KCF site and see how easy it is to enter your quilt or quilted item.  Usually we have someone who can bring the entries up and bring them back so don't worry about the trek.
Here's the online catalog--skip to page 43.
