From the January 15 Brainstorm
A couple of topics were introduced at this month's Brainstorm, which like our monthly meeting, was delayed a week due to a large amount of snow and ice. Thank you, El Nino.
First, it has been suggested that we re-value our quilt cards at 4 for $5, up from 5 for $5.
Second, a request was made to move the time of our monthly Thursday meeting up by one hour. After a discussion, it was recommended that we adjust our meeting time to reflect the twice a year time change--meet at 5:30 to 8 during Standard time and 6:30 to 9 during Savings time.
We will vote on these items at the February 4 meeting which will meet at the current time of 6:30. Hope you will be there.
Our next Brainstorm is February 12 at 12:30 following the pot luck at QCM.

The Friendship Quilt Returns

The Friendship Quilt Returns
You pick your fabric, you pick the block size, you pick a motif. Each month there will be a round robin exchange of materials and a different member makes a block for you from your stash while you make a block for another member from their stash. The number of blocks for your finished Friendship Quilt will depend on the number of people who sign up to participate.
March's program is a show of past Friendship Quilts. Even if you haven't completed that project (February's UFO becomes March's program!), pin it to a sheet in the way it might look when its done and bring it. Of course, some of us have finished our past year's Friendship Quilts. Prizes are in store.

New Sewing Machine for the Pool Pavilion
The members have approved the purchase of a new sewing machine for use in the Pool Pavilion. Use outside of the PP has to be cleared with a board member and is for a limited time only.
There is an old broken machine in the PP closet. The cost of repair would be equal to or more than a new machine from Costco. It will be donated to the Transfer Center unless someone wants it.

Comfort Zone
At the Jamison Center December 2015
|
We are ready to start up the process of making quilts and tote bags for the Jamison Center serving at-risk children of Kern County for 2016. In addition to making quilts for the younger kids, we'd like to broaden our range to include more quilts for older kids and teens this year.
Please join us on the 4th Wednesday of the month-- this month January 27--at the Clubhouse's Pool Pavilion from 9 to 3 as we put together kits, sew quilt tops, and make tote bags to reach our goal of 100 quilts and 100 tote bags by December 1.

Check out the attachment to this
e-mail for the list of Officers and Committee Chairs for 2016. Because this newsletter is published as a blog, we withhold address and phone numbers here. You will find pertinent information with the e-mail that brings this. In March, we will send you a copy of the Membership List for 2016.

If you haven't paid your dues for 2016--$25 for the calendar year from January to December, $15 if you live off the hill--send them in to the POB on the masthead or bring them to our next meeting.
If the dues are a financial hardship this year, please talk with one of our officers about alternate means of funding your membership. No one is ever excluded from the Guild or a guild activity because of money.

Bettina at work |
Our historian, Bettina Chavez, will be taking photos of us at the next two Thursday meetings, February 4 and March 3. These one inch head shots are used only for the membership list. Current photos have reached their limit of reproduction.
Failure to comply with having your little photo taken by a professional photographer will result in a guild member having to break into the DMV for photos of you! Please help us stay on the right side of the law.

Card Making Workshops
Our very popular handmade quilt cards are a labor of love. Gracia Stahl chairs, assisted by Tong Sproul. Diane McBain is our artistic director and Liz Buchroeder is chair emeritus. But everyone in the Guild has participated in some way to produce, promote or package cards.
Wednesday February 10 is our next card making workshop. We meet the second Wednesday of each month in the Pool Pavilion from 9 to 3 to make cards. Proceeds from their donated price go to fund Comfort Zone projects.

The cold weather in January contributed to a number of colds. Even our Sunshine girl, Gayle Gentile-Royal got the bug. Her Karma sent her a get well card.
The ice caused Gracia Stahl to slip and injure her wrist but Mary McDevitt suffered the quilting injury of the month--a rotary cutter slice requiring stitches at the PMC Health Clinic. No blood got on her fabric. Good work, Mary!
And good news from Margie Carasquillo. She's walking.
See you soon, Margie

Show & Tell
Carol Wiersma put together 8 of these bags during the recent snow storms. We liked them so much, we talked her into teaching a class later this year.

It hurts to think! |
Tip of the Month Stream of Consciousness
- Mary McDevitt suggests tuning out others (especially husbands) when using a rotary cutter. See Sunshine.
- Kathy Weinstein wants to thanks Felicity Watson for the Nok-Out recommendation. Nok-Out takes stains out of carpets (especially dog accident related ones.)
- Gayle Gentile recommended Nature's Miracle for the same type of stain removal.
- Beth Worrell recommended Folex. It's good for that and other many types of stains including blood.
- But nothing works better on your own blood than your own saliva. It's the enzymes.

Pine Mountain Scrappers News & Views is brought to you somewhat monthly by the PMSQG. It is intended only to inform and entertain. There will certainly be errors, misspellings and omissions but we try to get the facts straight which is more than I can do with my lines on the machine.
